DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION

Safety signs are made with metal or PVC brackets which are 0.5/0.7 mm. thick. The pictograms are in line with the decree n.493 of 13.08.1996 and their chromatic and photometric specifications with the norm UNI 7543.
The luminescent signs are modelled with special inks that are sensitive to sun or artificial light so that in case of black outs an absorbed light is released making them visible. The capacity to release light diminishes as time goes by.

On the technical side, the norm is inadequate especially on instructions and choices of the most suitable signs. The law suggests a formula to calculate the size of the Safety / 2000 where A represents the area of the sign expressed inSign, viz. A = I square metres and I is the distance in meters at which the sign is still visible. Here below some practical instructions on the installation of signs are indicated.


Information and location signs

Cartello estintore The sign must be placed above and not aside the equipment;
It must be placed about 15 cm. above the equipment so as to be seen also in the
presence of smoke;
Along the corridors a flag type sign should be placed;
Sometimes more than one sign needs to be placed to locate a single.

Equipment; this is useful when the structure of the building does not allow a quick dismissal of the equipment because of angles, columns, pillars and other obstacles.



Escape route signs

Cartello Uscita di Emergenza Escape route signs are fundamental in case of emergency, therefore much attention and control is dedicated to them.

Direction signs of the exit route must be placed horizontally every 20-30 metres
along the way;
Along the corridors a flag type sign should preferably be placed;
Emergency exit signs must be placed on all the doors along the escape route and
on the way out towards the exit or a safe place; these signs should preferably be
of the luminescent type and indicate the way out possibly with the progressive
indication of the safety exit.



Prohibition, warning and prescription signs

Cartello Vietato Fumare The most important are: no smoking, no free flames to be used, no pedestrians, etc.

They must be placed in an upper position at about 2.5 metres
from the ground, at least every 20 horizontal metres.
They must be visible to all the personnel wherever the latter is
located.
